McAfee VirusScan is an anti-virus and anti-spyware software that allows you to find and remove viruses and other malware from your computer and email attachments. Please note that running more than one anti-virus software (or more than one version of the same software) on your computer can cause serious conflicts. Before installing VirusScan, make sure you do not have other anti-virus applications on your machine.

Note: This version of VirusScan can be installed on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macintosh computers as long as they have Mac OS 10.4.6 or above installed.

  • If your version of Mac OS X is between 10.4.0 and 10.4.6, use Apple Software Updates to update your operating system.
  • If you have an earlier version of Mac OS 10 (10.3.x or below), use Virex 7.x.
  • This version of VirusScan works with Mac OS 10.6.x (Snow Leopard). OIT does not currently support Snow Leopard, but support will be forthcoming soon.
