Activate Your Account
Incoming undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff:
- Activate your account online with your NetID and temporary password sent to you via email or regular mail. On the SPIRE Logon page, click Activate Your Account under OIT Accounts (right side of the page).
- Come in person to OIT Account Management, A113 LGRC, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., with your UCard (UMass picture ID) or other valid picture ID. This is a security precaution to protect you and the privacy of your account.

Forgot Your NetID or Password?
Click the Password Help link on the SPIRE Logon page (at right, under OIT Accounts) to retrieve your NetID or password. Or, you can stop by OIT Account Management (A113 LGRC Lowrise, M - F, 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.) or the Learning Commons & Technical Support Desk (Lower level of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library) with a picture ID.
New Students
OIT emails account information to undergraduate and graduate students' non-UMass email addresses soon after new students reserve their spot at the University. If you do not have a non-UMass email address on file with the University or if you have not activated your OIT Account yet, you will receive a set of printed materials with your account information by regular mail.
You'll need this information to activate your account online: on the SPIRE Logon page, click Activate Your Account under OIT Accounts (right side of the page), then follow the prompts on the screen.
Returning Students
Your NetID is reserved for two years after you leave the University.
Returning students will receive an email at their non-UMass email address with a temporary password and can re-activate their accounts on SPIRE Logon page (at right, under OIT Accounts).
If you are returning after two years or longer, you will receive a new NetID at your non-UMass email address.
Faculty & Staff
Faculty and staff receive their NetID and initial password via email or regular mail shortly after they become University employees, and can use this information to activate their accounts online. On the SPIRE Logon page, click Activate Your Account under OIT Accounts (right side of the page).
Note: If you have not received your account information from OIT, please wait until you receive your first paycheck before you come to OIT Account Management (A113 LGRC Lowrise, M - F, 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.) to activate your OIT Account.
